White gold and platinum have been the “go to” colour of choice for jewellery for the last few decades. White gold and platinum are great precious metals to brighten and whiten diamonds, and compliment coloured gemstones such as rubies, emeralds, and sapphires.
In the last few years other colours of gold have been re-emerging and are really trending and increasingly popular for all types of jewellery including engagement rings, pendants, earrings, and bracelets.
More and more, we’re seeing yellow gold make a big comeback for engagement rings, wedding bands, chains, and all other types of jewellery. Yellow gold adds a warmth and contrast to the whiteness of diamonds, and makes colored stones stand out.
Rose gold is a classic favourite and alternative colour which never goes out of style. It certainly adds a unique warm tone and personal design statement as rose gold is not as often used as white or yellow gold.
Personal preference is important but skin tone also plays a factor in deciding which metal choice is right for you. The only way to know for sure which colour (or colours!) look best on you is to try on all metal choices before you settle on any particular colour. It is also increasingly popular and trendy to mix and match by accessorizing and wearing two, or all three colours of jewellery at the same time! Many even wear a combination of two-tone jewellery and/or tri-colour jewellery together with another separate colour item(s) all at the same time. There is no right or wrong way to wear the various colours of jewellery. Experiment and have fun by trying out different and new colour combinations all at the same time to find the perfect look, or looks for you. Change it up and freshen your jewellery look, depending on your mood or fashion style of the day.
Isn’t yellow gold jewellery all the same colour yellow? Not quite. You should be aware that every colour of gold has subtle (or not so subtle!) differences in colour and tone depending on karat and the alloys used to harden and create the colour of choice. Please see the photo for only a few of the differences available. Yellow can range from pale soft yellow to bright deep golden colour, or even yellow with overtones of rose, green, or other colours. The combinations are endless. The same holds true for both white and rose coloured gold, and platinum jewellery.
Ultimately, the choice is yours to experiment and have fun mixing and matching to create your own personal jewellery style and fashion statement.
